About Luffness New

Luffness New was formed in 1894 after a dispute over golf on Gullane Common, when the owner of the Luffness Estate, Henry Hope, had a new course laid out on his own land with Old Tom Morris. The original Luffness club moved west and became Kilspindie.

Freddie Tait, the Amateur Champion of 1896 and 1898, was a founder member; he was killed in the Second Boer War in 1900, and the 15th hole is named after him.

We play 36 holes here on the fourth day of the trip.

What stands out

  • Small greens with a reputation as some of the truest in East Lothian.
  • The 4th and 12th greens sit near the clubhouse, so short loops are possible.
  • The 6th, Quarry, is a 152-yard par 3 with a hidden bunker.
