About No. 9

Before it was No. 9, this was The National Golf Club, a private club built around a Jack Nicklaus course. Pinehurst Resort bought it in 2014, about three miles from the main resort, and added it to the numbered lineup.

Compared with the Ross and Hanse courses, No. 9 has more trees and water and fewer sandy waste areas. We played it in the afternoon of a 36-hole day, right after No. 8.

What stands out

  • The only Jack Nicklaus course in the Sandhills.
  • Wide, tree-lined fairways and rolling bentgrass greens, with water in play.
  • Its own clubhouse, about three miles from the main resort.
