About Columbia

The club was organized in 1898 as the Columbia Golf Club and moved to Connecticut Avenue in 1911. Design credit is debated: Herbert Barker is often named as the original designer, while the club notes that Walter J. Travis, who renovated the course in 1915 and 1916, is widely credited.

Jim Barnes won the 1921 U.S. Open here by nine strokes. More recently Columbia hosted the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur (won by Brian Harman) and the 2021 U.S. Girls' Junior, where Rose Zhang set the course record of 62.

Columbia is our fall stop: we've played it in October 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026.

What stands out

  • Hilly site with tight fairways and small, sloping poa annua greens.
  • Coquelin Run winds past holes 1, 15, 16, 17 and 18; the par-3 16th over a pond is the signature hole.
  • The course sits on both sides of a former B&O railroad line.
